Life Cycle Communities

This program, developed by IERE in 2010, is directly aimed at connecting economic opportunity to community environmental performance. The vision of the life cycle communities program is simple: government and business working together using life cycle thinking and life cycle assessment for better environmental performance and economic advantage.

Who can participate?

Cities, states, counties, ports and tribes can all use environmental performance to drive economic value using life cycle thinking in decision making, policy, planning and purchasing.

What makes a Life Cycle Community?

A Life Cycle Community applies life cycle thinking to its decision making, in planning, purchasing and operations.

Who are the Life Cycle Communities?

TheĀ City of Tacoma was the first life cycle community. They committed to the action via a city council resolution, and have already seen some positive outcomes.
