Minutes of the Packaging LCA Scoping Group - 21 February 2008
We met by phone. On the call were) Joe Cattaneo (Glass); Ron Cotterman (Flexible Packaging); Keith Christman (ACC: plastic packaging); Bill Heenan (Steel); Mike Levy (ACC: Polystyrene); Kevin Ott (Plastic Bags); Dennis Sabourin (Recycled PET); Rita Schenck (Institute for Environmental Research and Education); Jeannine von Zastrow (Food Marketers Association); Jason Wadsworth (Wegmans & FMI).
We welcomed the FMI participants to the meeting, and went over the tentative agreements we made in St. Petersburg. It was noted that one other agreement did not make it on the list: i.e. that data should be made available to the US LCI database.
No one had any problems with any of the agreements. The Steel industry, the glass industry and the recycled PET industries confirm that their organizations agree with our decisions. However, neither the flexible packaging association nor the ACC Plastics division have yet completed their (internal & stakeholder) outreach. The aluminum industry was not on the line.
Rita reported that she had done outreach to the groceries manufacturers association, Avery-Dennison, FMI (whom we were happy to have on the phone), and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. She could not find contact info for the closure manufacturers association. Joe Cattaneo said he would forward information to her.
We set our next meeting for 20 March 2008, 8 am Pacific, 11 am Eastern.
The work we need to do between now and then:
• Rita will prepare summaries of toxicity impact assessment models
• Rita will prepare summaries of existing data sets
• Those who have not yet completed their internal confirmation of the decisions should be working on that.
