Minutes of the Packaging LCA Scoping Group - 4 January 2008
The group met by conference call, with Joe Catanio (glass industry), Ron Cotterman (flexible packaging industry), Bill Heenan (steel industry), Mike Levy (plastics industry), Ken Martchek and Bob Strieter (aluminum industry), Dennis Sabourin (PET recycling industry), and Rita Schenck (NGO) attending.
We discussed the draft flow charts for the packages. There was some discussion on the flow charts. There are errors on the specific materials flow charts. Everyone should edit the chart for their industry and send it to Rita no later than the 25th of January.
We agreed to meet at St. Petersburg, Florida at The Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront on the 29th of January, 8:30 to 2:30 just before the sustainable packaging design meeting http://bnpevents.com/PS/2007/PD/index.htm. We should each get rooms at the meeting hotel and Rita will get a room to meet there.
At the meeting, we will go over all the ISO requirements for scoping an LCA, with the intent of making at least a preliminary decision on each item. We will also discuss the potential for using this exercise to form a type III ecolabel (also called an EPD, or environmental product declaration per ISO TR14025).
Rita will send out a Power point presentation describing EPD’s and also covering more info on EPD’s.
We will meet next in St. Petersburg on the 29th.
