Wal-Mart Packaging LCA Scoping Group
Since March 2006, IERE has been working with Wal-Mart and is a member of the steering committee for their Packaging Sustainable Value Network. Wal-Mart has adopted Life Cycle Assessment as a tool for their sustainability program. This is clearly expressed in the packaging score card, which is currently in its first phase of implementation. The first phase focuses on the raw material production and end of life phases of the life cycle.In support of the second phase of implementation for the packaging scorecard, IERE has been leading a committee that is scoping the full life cycle of packaging, using a primary food container as the example. The goal is to provide an example of multi-stakeholder scoping of a package LCA, and to provide guidance relevant to any LCA scoping exercise.
